WALKOUT INFO

Tracy Unified is aware of planned student walkouts/protests against Federal immigration policies.  In addition to messages previously sent to parents by school sites as well as the district office, we want you to be aware of the following:

*Students have a constitutional right to protest and the school cannot stop them

*School sites have been instructed to create a safe space on campus for students to peacefully protest, however some students are planning to leave campus to protest

*We highly encourage you to speak with your students about this issue

*If students choose to leave campus, it is an unexcused absence, unless the parent calls in to excuse it ahead of time (Pursuant to Ed. Code Section 48205, parents are allowed to excuse a political protest once a year)

*For student athletes who leave campus, they will be ineligible to play that day or Saturday

*If your student decides to protest, please encourage them to stay on campus where it is safe.

Cadets at West High School’s Air Force JROTC program know the bar has been set high.

On Friday the 183 cadets were more than prepared for their Unit Assessment, a full day inspection examining the use and storage of Air Force funded items, issuance of Air Force uniforms, proper uniform wear and grooming, safe storage of weapons, review of curriculum, and drill proficiency.

On Tuesday the school was officially notified that West’s JROTC unit had received the highest possible rating, “Exceeds Standards.” Al Thompson, Headquarters Air Force JROTC Regional Director, said the top designation only begins to describe how impressed he was by their efforts.
